It’s not every day that a project arrives with iconic TV history and Hollywood nostalgia at Q-PLUS Labs. Everyone in the office was buzzing with excitement at the prospect of 3D scanning an original Star Trek TV show prop (circa 1967). When the client arrived, many team members that work in other areas of the company just had to come over to see it. “We scanned an original Klingon Disruptor from the first season of Star Trek! It’s pretty cool.” said Marketing Team members.
We see all types of 3D Scanning projects, big to small, and simple to complex, but it’s not every day that you get to touch a part of cinematic history and sci-fi royalty. Utilizing a Faro Quantum S ScanArm with a Prism Lazer Line Scanner, we created a detailed 3D scan of the prop. We then converted the scan data to a precise CAD model that will be used to create replicas for memorabilia collectors and franchise fans alike. This was indeed an honor. We also take pride in helping to preserve a part of American culture for future generations.
